Mission MMA Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect on my first day?

Arrive a few minutes early. When you enter, remove your shoes and place them in a cubby. Head to the front desk to register and fill out a waiver. Change in the locker room if needed. Step into the blue tub of foot cleanser, then onto a towel to dry your feet before stepping on the mat. From there, just follow your coach's instructions.

Are beginners welcome?

Absolutely. All experienced fighters were once beginners. Our students range from absolute beginners to active fighters. Mission is open to athletes from all walks of life.

Do you offer drop-in options?

Yes, you're more than welcome to drop in for a class. Our drop-in fee is $35.

What should I wear to train?

For BJJ no-gi, kickboxing and MMA classes, wear comfortable exercise clothing (dry-fit shirt, shorts, leggings, etc.). For BJJ gi classes, wear a gi, preferably white. Make sure your clothes are clean and your nails are trimmed.

What type of gear do I need?

For BJJ, a mouthguard is recommended but not mandatory. For kickboxing, you'll need shin guards, hand wraps, and 16oz boxing gloves. For MMA, you'll need grappling gloves and a mouth guard. Avoid brands like Sanabul and RDX. Gear can be purchased at the gym if needed.

What facilities does the gym have?

Mission has fully equipped locker rooms for men and women with toilets and showers. We also have a recovery room with ice machines, gravity chairs, compression boots, and more — available for unlimited members.

What if I have a disability or other physical limitation?

Mission is fully committed to maintaining an inclusive environment. Just alert the coach so adjustments can be made as needed. Mission also offers semi-private programming for adults with cognitive and intellectual disabilities. Contact said@missionmmachicago.com for more information.
